Are you already a Guide and want to find out more? Want to join but don't know much about it? Read on to find out lots about us.
WHO ARE WE?
Guides are groups of girls aged 10 to 14 and there of millions of us all over the world. Each group of Guides is made of a number of smaller groups called Patrols. Each Patrol has a name and special badge that shows what Patrol you belong to.
There are 14 Guide units in St Albans, including London Colney, Colney Heath, Park Street, Bricket Wood and Chiswell Green. So there is bound to be a group near you.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We get together once a week to do lots of exciting things and generally have a good laugh! Here are a few of activities we get up to:
- Go For Its!
- Interest Badges
- Trips away
- Special Events
Go For Its! are packs that contain loads of activities, information and games to do in your Patrol. Each pack has a theme, such as Parties, Teamwork and Fitness. There is even a Go For It! Chocolate! Yum Yum!!
If you have a particular hobby or interest you could also try doing an Interest Badge. There are so many topics to choose from there is bound to be something that takes your fancy. Here are just a few of those on offer:
| Baden-Powell Challenge | Craft | Holiday | Party Planner | | Confectioner | Film Lover | Music Zone | Sports | | Circus Skills | Guide Camp Permit | Outdoor Cook | Team Leader |
There are so many opportunities to go on trips with Guides. Your unit may go on a camping trip or just have a sleepover. Some Guides also go on International trips and visit Guides in other countries.
There are always lots of special one-off events Guides can go to as well, such as challenges, projects and concerts. Each year Girlguiding UK holds a concert called the 'BIG GIG'. So far Pixie Lott, The Noisettes, JLS and Tinchy Stryder are all confirmed for the 2010 concert.
More than anything Guides have fun. It's a great opportunity to make new friends and try out activities that you wouldn't find at home or in school.
WHAT DO WE WEAR?
To help you feel like a Guide there is a uniform to wear. There's a whole range of items you can choose from, including t-shirts, rugby shirts, sweat shirts and gilets. You can wear pretty much whatever you like on your bottom half.
